It's so deep and meaningful on so many levels and provides insightful social commentary on the cold, dispassionate state of modern society ie capitalism/consumerism. &lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;I'm confounded about the meaning of the wind-up bird itself. I believe it represents society's automation of the individual; capitalism winds us up like machines so we can continue producing for the system. I love his work. It i...</title><content type='html'>I am a huge fan of Murakami. I love his work. It is not often that an author is brave enough to write about the mundane, but Murakami doesn't shirk from this. His characters are always stopping to have a meal, or a wash, or to listen to the radio. He writes about these things beautifully.
